Isabel Friesner CC’19

Hi! I’m Izzy, a senior in Columbia College studying Computer Science and Public Health. Last semester, I studied abroad in Melbourne, Australia with the IFSA Butler: University of Melbourne Program. I lived in a residential college that housed 250 students where 50% were Australian and 50% were international. This meant I got the opportunity to form relationships with people from all over the world! I took classes at the University of Melbourne ranging from Database Systems to a Street Art class focusing on the incredible street art in Melbourne, including walking tours of different neighborhoods and talks with well-known street artists. While in Australia I got the opportunity to travel to other major cities such as Sydney, Adelaide, and Tasmania, as well as take a road trip up the entire northeast coast of Queensland from Brisbane to Port Douglass and dive at the great barrier reef! I even got to the chance to take a quick trip to New Zealand and hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. I loved Australia, seeing the diverse and unique wildlife, getting to meet new people, and experiencing life halfway across the world!
