If you are eager to take local courses alongside Chilean students, consider applying to the IFSA in Chile: Valparaiso & Vina del Mar Program. In order to participate, you need to complete through Intermediate Spanish II, or the equivalent, prior to departure. You are able to take courses from two local universities. The program includes a Spanish conversation partner exchange program, day-trip and longer term cultural activities as well as a homestay experience.
This program is designed for students with a good command of the Spanish language and interest in Chilean and Spanish-speaking South American politics, economics, history, literature, and society. The Chilean Universities Program (CUP) in Valparaíso enrolls you in classes alongside your Chilean counterparts at two local universities. All university classes are taught in Spanish and are integrated with full degree-seeking students. In addition, you take an advanced Spanish course to further your knowledge of the language.
You live with a homestay family throughout the experience. You are encouraged to get involved with the local community through volunteer projects and through their exchange partner.
