The Middlebury program in Madrid at the Autonoma de Madrid is available during the spring semester and academic year. In order to participate, you need to complete a minimum of one 3000-level Spanish course, or the equivalent, prior to departure. You take courses at the Autonoma de Madrid as well as at the Sede Prim, Middlebury College's study center. Middlebury provides a variety of housing opportunities for you to chose from for the semester.

If you are an advanced Spanish language learner, this is a program to consider. You study at the Autonoma de Madrid (at least two courses) as well as at the Sede Prim, Middlebury College's Center. You will take four courses total. The Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) is one of the premier research universities in Spain. The UAM Cantoblanco campus is located 15 kms north of Madrid and is less than a 30 minute train ride from the Sede Prim. The UAM offers courses that are open to our students in the fields of biochemistry, biology, environmental science, food studies, geography, history, linguistics, math, music, and psychology, among others.

To take full advantage of your time abroad, you are expected to maintain the spirit of the Middlebury College Language Pledge and to speak only Spanish while in Spain.

Please note that the spring semester may extend into the first week of June.

Program Features

You have three options for housing: carefully selected homestays, residence halls or shared students apartments. Middlebury offer language tutors and partners to support you throughout your time abroad, if needed.
