Overview
The CIEE Portugal: Engineering, Technology + Sciences in Lisbon program offers a combination of courses taught by CIEE and its host institutions: ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e de Empresas – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), NOVA-FCSH (NOVA School of Social Sciences – Universidade Nova de Lisboa), NOVA-SBE (NOVA School of Business – Universidade Nova de Lisboa), or ISEG (Lisbon School of Economics and Management). The program is designed to support students interested in studying engineering, technology, and science abroad while being immersed in Lisbon's culture.
Students are required to take at least one course in the area of engineering, technology, or science.
Academics
You will take a combination of courses at CIEE's Study Center and at the host institution of your choice, either ISCTE-IUL, NOVA-FCSH, NOVA-SBE, or ISEG.
At ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e de Empresas – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), courses are mostly taught in English, and students can take up to two courses in subjects such as psychology, human rights, economics, political science, and more.
At NOVA-FCSH (NOVA School of Social Sciences – Universidade Nova de Lisboa), you can take up to four courses; however, courses are typically taught in Portuguese. The Social Sciences and Humanities School offers a range of courses in history, economics, international relations, film, and music. Permission to enroll in NOVA-FCSH courses is based on academic background and the results of the language placement exam.
At NOVA-SBE (NOVA School of Business – Universidade Nova de Lisboa) or ISEG (Lisbon School of Economics and Management), courses are mostly taught in English, and students can take up to two courses. Please note that Columbia College generally transfers credits only for courses taken in liberal arts subjects. Some credits may not transfer in subjects that are taught at Columbia professional schools, such as business, management, or fashion. Program Features
You have the option of living in a homestay or in a dormitory-style residence hall with a mix of CIEE, local, and international students.
All courses are complemented with co-curricular activities and excursions organized by CIEE that go beyond the city to showcase Lisbon's culture and commitment to engineering, technology, and science.

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:
- To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
- To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
