Overview

The CIEE Portugal: Arts and Sciences program offers a combination of courses taught by CIEE and CIEE’s partner schools: FCSH-UNL (Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas - Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e de Empresas-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa). A wide range of courses will be available to take in the humanities, basic and applied sciences, history, language, and public policy.

To participate, you need to complete a minimum of 4 semesters of Portuguese, or the equivalent, prior to departure.

Academics

You will have the ability to choose from classes at CIEE Lisbon on topics such as history, philosophy, languages, culture, and architecture.

At FCSH-UNL (Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas - Universidade Nova de Lisboa), you will have the option to take up to four courses, which are typically taught in Portuguese. The Social Science Departments range in Anthropology, History, International Relations, Philosophy, and Sociology. Permission to enroll in FCSH-UNL courses is based on academic background and the results of the language placement exam.

At ISCTE-IUL (Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e de Empresas-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa), you have the option to take up to two courses.

Program Features

You have the option of living in a homestay or in a dormitory-style residence hall with a mix of CIEE, local, and international students.

All courses are complemented with co-curricular activities and excursions organized by CIEE beyond the city to enhance classroom learning and provide intercultural understanding.
