Overview
Middlebury at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid has the option for you to take a combination of courses at Middlebury’s Sede Prim and the local university, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. This program is designed for students that have achieved an intermediate high to advanced low level of Spanish and are committed to linguistic immersion. In order to participate, you need to complete a minimum of 5 semesters of Spanish, or the equivalent, plus one content course taught in Spanish prior to departure.
Academics
You will study at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (at least two courses) as well as at the Sede Prim, Middlebury's headquarters in Madrid. The Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) is one of the premier research universities in Spain. The UAM offers courses that are open to our students in Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Food Studies, Geography, History, Linguistics, Math, Music, and Psychology, among others.
To take full advantage of your time abroad, you are expected to maintain the spirit of the Middlebury College Language Pledge and to speak only Spanish while in Spain.
Please note that the fall semester extends into early January, and the spring semester extends into early June due to final exams at UAM.
Program Features
You have three options for housing: carefully selected homestays, residence halls or shared students apartments.
Middlebury hosts a variety of activities held outside the classroom to provide you with opportunities to deepen social immersion in Spanish culture, enhance language skills, and gain a better understanding of present-day Spain. Middlebury also offers language tutors and partners to support you throughout your time abroad if needed.
