Hey y’all! My name is Olivia Avila, I was lucky enough to have the life changing experience of doing a homestay in Siena, Italy during the Spring 2026 term. I learned so much about the rich history of the city, got to completely immerse myself in the language, and created a loving community with the locals – all of whom I miss so dearly! I took amazing classes like Contemporary Italian Cinema: From Canon to the Fringe, Topics in Renaissance History: Sienese Art and Architecture, and Foodscapes in Women’s Writing, Culture and Society. These courses seriously opened my eyes on many complicated issues that have challenged the Italian people. However, when I wasn’t with the amazing professors learning, I was exploring the city with newfound friends and creating once-in-a-lifetime memories in the beautiful country.

Additionally, being located in Europe meant I was able to travel to Paris, London, Copenhagen, and Budapest! I truly believe that having this experience of studying abroad helped grow my confidence in traveling, adapting to different environments, and being a strong global citizen.
