You will pay tuition directly to Barnard through their billing system for the Fall 2022 semester. For the Spring 2023 semester, you will pay both tuition and program fee directly to Barnard. Please confirm with the study abroad office at Barnard details about these payments.
Fall 2022
Tuition: Barnard students pay home school tuition. It covers tuition, course excursions, most course materials, some local transportation, and cultural activities. It does not cover housing, meals, airfare, medical insurance, some course materials, personal travel, and personal expenses.

Deposit: The non-refundable deposit of $500 is submitted along with your Confirmation of Participation form in the fall semester to reserve your place in the program and is payable in the UGE Application Portal. The deposit will be applied to program fee in the Fall 2022.
Program Fee: This fee includes includes housing at residence hall with a private bathroom, program activities, some course materials, university fees, liability insurance, and printing supplies and is payable in the UGE Application Portal.

Tuition: Barnard students pay home school tuition. It covers tuition, course excursions, most course materials, some local transportation, and cultural activities. It does not cover housing, meals, airfare, medical insurance, some course materials, personal travel, and personal expenses.
Program Fee: You will pay the program fee of $6,400 with tuition directly to Barnard through their billing system for the Spring 2023. This fee includes mandatory program housing, program activities, some course materials, university fees, liability insurance, and printing supplies.
Tuition and fees are subject to approval by The Trustees of Columbia University and may change.
Estimated Out-of-Pocket Expenses are not billed by Columbia. The estimated amounts in this section provide a basis for students to determine their individual budgets for expenses related to their time overseas for the duration of the program. The below estimate is an average of what students say they actually spend. These expenses are NOT paid to the program. Note that all on-site expenses have been estimated for a 9-month period at an exchange rate of 1 euro = 1.08 USD.

Meals: The cost for meals and food will vary widely depending on individual spending habits. Costs can be kept down by preparing your own meals, taking advantage of student cafeterias, and only eating out occasionally.
Local Transportation: You will be responsible for paying for transportation to and from the airport in Paris at the start and end of the program. A monthly Navigo pass is currently 75€/month.
Visa: You are responsible for visa fees. The fee above includes the following: Campus France fee, VFS fees, French consulate fee, visa shipping costs.
Cellphone: All students are required to have a working cell phone capable of making and receiving both local and international calls throughout the duration of the program. Most students will buy a SIM card, and can top off as needed or pay for a monthly plan.
Airfare: Estimated cost of a round trip airfare from the US to Paris. Flight costs will vary depending on point of departure. You can consider getting traveler's insurance, or flexible tickets. You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements from your preferred departure city to the program.
Personal Expenses: Personal expenses are highly variable based on each person's spending habits. They may include entertainment and personal travel.
As part of the program, you will be covered for urgent and emergent care while you are abroad. This cost is not included in the chart above. Routine and preventive care is not included so you should maintain a health insurance policy that will provide coverage outside the U.S. or your home country.
As you prepare for your time abroad, you might prepare for COVID-related expenses such as optional trip-cancellation insurance, pre-arrival testing and onsite testing not reimbursed by insurance, additional quarantine/isolation room and board expenses if applicable, etc. Requirements will continue to evolve and will vary based on local conditions.
