Deposit: The non-refundable $500 deposit is submitted along with the Confirmation of Participation form to reserve your place in the program and is payable in the UGE Application Portal. This deposit will be transferred to your student account and applied to your program costs.

Tuition: The fall tuition invoice will be sent via e-bill in mid-August 2026, with a due date in mid-September 2026. Tuition covers academic instruction, course excursions, most course materials, some local transportation, and cultural activities. It does not cover housing, meals, airfare, medical insurance, some specific course materials, personal travel, or personal expenses.

Program Fee: The program fee of $7,210 covers two costs: housing and program activities.

  • The $5,150 housing fee includes a single room in a residence hall featuring a private bathroom or a micro-studio. This does not include meals.
  • The program activities fee is $2,060 and includes activities, specific course materials, university fees, required insurance, and printing supplies.
Tuition and fees are subject to approval by The Trustees of Columbia University and may change.

Estimated Out-of-Pocket Expenses are not billed by Columbia. The estimated amounts in this section provide a basis for students to determine their individual budgets for expenses related to their time overseas for the duration of the program. The below estimate is an average of what students say they actually spend. These expenses are NOT paid to the program.

Meals: The cost for meals and food will vary widely depending on individual spending habits. Costs can be kept down by preparing your own meals, taking advantage of student cafeterias, and only eating out occasionally.

Local Transportation: You will be responsible for paying for transportation to and from the airport in Paris at the start and end of the program. A monthly Navigo pass is currently 78€/month.

Visa: You are responsible for visa fees. The fee above includes the following: Campus France fee, TLS fees, French consulate fee, visa shipping costs.

Books and course supplies: You are responsible for purchasing any course materials.

Cellphone: All students are required to have a working cell phone capable of making and receiving both local and international calls throughout the duration of the program. Most students will buy a SIM card and can top off as needed or pay for a monthly plan.

Airfare: Estimated cost of a round trip airfare from the US to Paris. Flight costs will vary depending on point of departure. You can consider getting traveler's insurance, or flexible tickets. You are responsible for making your own travel arrangements from your preferred departure city to the program.

Personal Expenses: Personal expenses are highly variable based on each person's spending habits. They may include entertainment and personal travel.

As part of the program, you will be covered for urgent and emergent care while you are abroad. Routine and preventive care is not included so you should maintain a health insurance policy that will provide coverage outside the U.S. or your home country. This cost is not included in the chart above.
