Frontiers of Science in Paris for General Studies students

In Summer 2020, the Center for Undergraduate Global Engagement is offering the Frontiers of Science course taught on the Columbia Summer in Paris program. The course will be taught by Dr. Ivana Hughes, Director of Frontiers of Science, and it will be a great opportunity to challenge yourself to think differently about the world around you, both scientifically and culturally. This summer you will have access to guest lectures and course excursions never before offered to FroSci students.

Highlights of the Columbia Summer in Paris Program for General Studies Students

  • Flexible course options: Students taking the Frontiers of Science course may opt to take 1 – 2 courses on this program, and are allowed to petition to add a third course upon arrival in Paris.
  • No French Language Required: There are a wide variety of courses offered in both English and French
  • Global Core: This program offers two course options that fulfill the Global Core requirement
  • A diverse mix of subjects are taught: courses are offered in subjects including Art History, Film Studies, Global Core, Physics and more.
  • Flexible housing options for students: Students may choose to live in a Home Stay, dorm or may opt out of program housing.
  • Funding options available: If you are eligible for financial aid, you may use it towards this summer program. Please contact the GS Office of Educational Financing to discuss your funding options. Students may also apply to the Beesen Fellowship as part of their program application.

Please note: Frontiers of Science satisfies both the QR requirement and one course of the science requirement when passed with a letter-grade of C or above. To enroll in Frontiers of Science, students must meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • Score of 16 or higher on the GS Quantitative Reasoning Exam
  • SAT Math score of 600 or higher within the last three years
  • ACT Math score of 27 or higher within the last three years
