It does NOT cover flight to Paris and from London, meals, and personal expenses.

ESTIMATED OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES are not billed by Columbia. The estimated amounts in this section provide a basis for students to determine their individual budgets for expenses related to their time overseas for the duration of the program. The below estimate is an average of what students say they actually spend. These expenses are NOT paid to the program. Note that all on-site expenses are estimated in dollars based on an exchange rate of 1 euro = 1.11 USD.

Total Estimated Out-of-Pocket Expenses subtotal:

Meals: The cost for meals and food will vary widely depending on individual spending habits. Costs can be kept down by preparing their own meals and only eating out occasionally. There will be a full kitchen available in the dorms. Students will be responsible for paying for all meals. Occasionally, the program will provide a group dinner.

Local Transportation: While in Paris, the group will be walking or traveling together to their events. At Cambridge, students will live in walking distance to all facilities. Students will be responsible for the cost of airport transfers in Paris and in the UK. The program fee covers the cost of travel between Paris and Cambridge.

Visa: U.S. students do not need a visa to study in France or the UK for less than 90 days. However, if you are not a U.S. citizen, you should check the UK and French Consulate websites to determine if you need a visa. International students may need a visa, which will incur additional costs.

Books and course supplies: All course materials are provided by the program.

Cell Phone: All students are required to have a working cell phone capable of making and receiving both local and international calls throughout the duration of the program. This estimate is based on costs of U.S. cell phone plans.

Airfare: Estimated cost of airfare from NYC to Paris and London to NYC. Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements from their preferred departure city to the program.

Personal Expenses: Personal expenses are highly variable based on each person's spending habits. They may include entertainment and personal travel (which is not recommended on a Global Scholars Program). Therefore, they can be as little as $100 and as high as $1000. Please plan this part of your budget based off of your own spending habits.

It is required that you maintain a health insurance policy that will also provide coverage outside the U.S. for routine, urgent and emergent care. This cost is not included in the chart above.
