Overview

The American University in Cairo (AUC), located in the heart of the Middle East, is a direct enrollment opportunity across its various undergraduate programs. AUC is an ideal place to explore your academic interests while immersing yourself in a new culture.

Academics

AUC is dedicated to fully integrating you on its campus, and you will have the opportunity to take classes alongside local students from Egypt. AUC offers a range of courses, including Anthropology, Arabic Language Studies, Biology, Computer Science, Economics, History, Middle East Studies, Psychology, and more.

Program Features

You will have the option to live in two types of student residences, on- or near campus. On-campus residences are similar to traditional dorms and are conveniently located near your classes. Residence buildings near campus are gender-separated apartment-style rooms and are an extension of AUC's campus. A shuttle bus operates between the residences and campus to assist with your commute.

AUC's campus offers numerous services, including a state-of-the-art sports center and the Center for Student Well-Being that provides counseling and wellness activities. Study abroad students can attend AUC's student organization fair at the start of the semester to participate in a student club.

Application Instructions

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary, and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:

  • To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
  • To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
