Overview
Spend a semester studying with CET Brazil and live in São Paulo — one of the world’s biggest and most multicultural cities. On the Social Justice & Inequality track, students will build a foundation for understanding the dynamics of global poverty and inequality — both in and out of the classroom — while taking a Portuguese language class offered at any level to better engage with the community.
Academics
Students combine the Social Justice Core Course with a Portuguese language class and three electives. Depending on your Portuguese language abilities, you can take one direct-enroll elective at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP). The CET and direct-enroll elective courses are across several fields, including Economics, Film, International Studies, Latin American Studies, Political Science, Sociology, and more.
Program Features
You will live in a shared apartment with CET peers and local roommates, who can teach you everything you need to know about Brazilian college life.
To encourage language acquisition and take your learning outside of the classroom, you engage in site visits around São Paulo, such as visiting a Guarani indigenous community to meet with leaders or attend a politically engaged poetry reading.
Beyond the big city, you will explore the African roots of Brazilian culture during a week-long seminar in Salvador da Bahia where you will travel to the countryside and visit Kaonge Quilombo, the São Joaquim Market, and Dendê Valley.
