Overview

Broaden your horizons by studying at the CIEE Spain: Advanced Liberal Arts program in the lively Mediterranean city of Barcelona. In this program, you will put your advanced Spanish skills to work and take a combination of courses at CIEE's Spain Study Center and their partner school, Universitat de Barcelona (UB). To participate, you need to complete a minimum of 6 semesters of Spanish, or the equivalent, prior to departure.

Academics

This program is geared toward independently-minded students interested in expanding their advanced Spanish language skills. You have the opportunity to take a wide range of courses at UB while also having the support network of CIEE. You are required to take an advanced Spanish language course at CIEE Barcelona Study Center, which is designed to prepare you for classes UB and the academic culture.

At UB, you may take courses across several fields, including Biology, Economics, Geography, History, Hispanic Philology, International Affairs, Mathematics, Modern Languages and Literatures (Spanish), Philosophy, Psychology, and more.

Program Features

You will have the option to live in either a homestay, in a student residencia (residence hall) with a mix of CIEE, local and international students, or in a shared apartment with CIEE students.

To encourage language and cultural acquisition, all participants of the program agree to speak Spanish throughout their study abroad experience.

CIEE also complements the program with a variety of co-curricular activities and excursions beyond the city to make your understanding of this diverse region complete – and unforgettable.
