Overview
Spend a semester at the prestigious University of Auckland, considered the country’s most innovative university. You can take classes in a variety of subjects alongside local students while enjoying the bustling city, which will serve as your campus for the semester.
Academics
Located in the heart of Auckland, the University of Auckland offers classes across a wide array of disciplines. Popular subjects include Anthropology, Economics, Engineering, Marine Studies, Natural Sciences, Sociology, and Maori Studies. Some subjects have restrictions for visiting students, which you can view on the IFSA website. You will take classes alongside full-degree local students. You will most likely take a traditional course load - four courses worth the equivalent of four Columbia points each.
You should note that the academic calendar in New Zealand differs significantly from that of Columbia University. Approximate dates are available on the IFSA external program webpage.
Program Features
The University of Auckland is located in New Zealand's largest city and commercial center. The city is an eclectic mix of New Zealand, Asian, and South Pacific cultures. The University of Auckland's main campus is bordered by two city parks and is adjacent to the city center.
You will live in an off campus apartment, usually with other international students and New Zealanders.
As a visiting student, you will have access to the University’s student union, student clubs, and social activities. IFSA will provide administrative support for your experience. They will offer academic advising, an orientation, activities, and excursions.

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:
- To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
- To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
