Overview
Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is one of the UK’s leading research-focused universities and one of the largest colleges of the University of London. It has an international reputation for academic excellence in teaching and research, and you will take classes alongside local students.

Academics
Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) is a member of the UK’s Russell Group, which includes Oxford, Cambridge, University College London, King's College London, and Imperial College London. QMUL maintains high-quality research and a focus on the student experience.
You can take courses in a wide variety of subjects, but QMUL has particular academic strengths in English, Drama, History, Political Science, and Biological Sciences. Its flexible system allows you to choose classes from different academic departments across the university. Some subjects have restrictions for visiting students, which you can view on IFSA's external program webpage.
Program Features
Based in the East End of London, QMUL is located in a diverse, multicultural part of the city. The campus is surrounded by vibrant neighborhoods, including Brick Lane and Shoreditch, which are both fashionable and rich in history. Two underground stations, Mile End and Stepney Green, provide quick, easy access to the city.
As a Queen Mary student, you’ll likely live on the main campus at Mile End Student Village—a rare perk in London.
As a visiting student, you will have access to the University’s student union, student clubs, and social activities. The International Office at QMUL will organize an orientation, activities, and excursions for visiting students.

To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:
- To apply for Columbia clearance (approval) to study abroad, click on "Start Your Application" on this webpage. Clearance applications are approved on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
- To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
