Overview

This study abroad program through partnership with IFSA allows you to enroll as a visiting student at the University of Edinburgh. Vibrant, historic, cosmopolitan; the University of Edinburgh is one of the oldest universities in the world. With a wide array of subjects, Edinburgh offers you a unique academic experience. You will live in a university residence hall or apartment.

Academics

Founded in 1583, the University of Edinburgh is rich in history and tradition. The University of Edinburgh is an international research institution known for academic excellence. You can choose from hundreds of courses. Departments of particular interest include Computer Science (Informatics), English, Engineering, History, Political Science, Sociology and Scottish Studies. You will take classes alongside full-degree local students. You will take a traditional course load of 60 Scottish credits, which is three to six courses.

Full-degree UK students traditionally study only one subject during their undergraduate career. As a visiting student, you are expected to take the majority of courses within your department but can take classes outside of it as well. You must meet any course prerequisites. To take 3rd year level courses at the University of Edinburgh, you must have taken 3 prior courses in the subject matter and received a B or better.

Please note that the department of Informatics (Computer Science) at Edinburgh only allows visiting students to enroll in a total of 20 Scotland Credits, or 5 Columbia points of computer science coursework.

Program Features

The University of Edinburgh, with its ancient and modern buildings, has a lively student atmosphere. You will live in a university residence hall or apartment, which are throughout Edinburgh. As a visiting student, you will have access to University facilities including cafeterias, shops, bars and entertainment venues. You can join more than more than 200 societies and 60 sports clubs.
