Summer Program Opportunities

- Russian Summer Program in Tallinn: This program, facilitated by Princeton University, provides intensive language classes for students interested in studying Beginner and Intermediate Level Russian. Language courses will be conducted at Tallin University in Estonia.
- SRAS: Formerly known as the School of Russian and Asian Studies, SRAS offers Russian language programs for learners of all levels. Their programs are offered across countries in Central Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Baltics.
- Summer in Georgia: This program, ran by Yale University, features intensive language and culture courses for all levels. While on program, all students live with local Russian speaking families on the Black Sea coast of Georgia.
- Russian Abroad Programs: This program is available for students that are studying their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of Russian. Students will learn one semester's worth of Russian study in 4 weeks, and participate in social and cultural activities in Riga, Latvia. Students must have at least 2 semesters of college-level Russian language study to be eligible to participate in this program.
- Russian in Central Asia Summer Program: Offers an immersive academic experience at the American University of Central Asia. Participants can choose between a Liberal Arts Track, featuring a wide range of English-taught courses in subjects like international politics, anthropology, and sociology, or a Russian Language Track tailored for intensive linguistic immersion.
- The Critical Language Institute (Kyrgyzstan and Latvia): The CLI Russian program at Arizona State University’s Melikian Center is an intensive, proficiency-based summer training initiative designed to rapidly advance students' linguistic and cultural competency. The program offers a range of levels, allowing students to complete up to two years of traditional university language study in a single summer. Beyond rigorous classroom instruction, participants benefit from a "living the language" approach that includes homestays with local families, daily conversation practice with language partners, and cultural excursions to historical sites and natural landmarks.
- Learn Russian in the EU: Learn Russian in the EU offers a summer Russian language and area studies program in Daugavpils, Latvia. The program offers homestay accommodation, area studies courses, and full Russian language immersion.
- Accelerated Immersion Programs, Indiana University: This program is an intensive, eight-week immersion experience designed for intermediate and advanced students. Developed in partnership with the American University of Central Asia, the program allows participants to complete the equivalent of one full academic year of Russian in a single summer.
- Study Russian in Armenia and Georgia, University of Georgia: This program is a six-week intensive summer experience designed for students of all language levels—including those with no prior Russian experience. This experiential learning adventure splits its time between two culturally rich capitals: Yerevan, Armenia, and Tbilisi, Georgia.

Application Instructions
Due to changing travel restrictions, all applicants will be handled as petitions to ensure we have the most up-to-date information. To apply, you must complete the two steps below. Deadlines vary and some applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Therefore, you should complete the steps below simultaneously:
- To apply for Columbia SUMMER clearance (approval) to study abroad, please review the Summer Petition webpage and click on "Start Your Application" on the Summer Petition webpage. Clearance applications are approved on a rolling basis until the application deadline listed on this webpage.
- To apply for program admission, complete an external application directly on the program webpage. Note that this deadline may be in advance of the Columbia clearance deadline.
