Overview
The SIT Netherlands: International Perspectives on Sexuality and Gender is an ideal program to explore the intersection of gender and sexuality with race, class, and religion. The program examines and highlights the experiences of the growing number of individuals in the Netherlands who are living in these complex intersections.
Academics
You will choose between two tracks of academic study; novice and advanced. Students who major or minor in Women's Studies, Sexuality, Gender or Queer Studies will take the advanced track. Previous college-level coursework or background in sexuality or gender studies is encouraged.
You will take courses that focus on the following themes, Theory and Application of Feminist, LGBTQI, and Queer Studies, Migration, Gender and Sexuality, Dutch, Research Methods and Ethics, and Independent Study Project (ISP).
Program Features
You will live with a local family in the greater Amsterdam area for the whole of the program. Hosts include LGBT households, single parents, and traditional families, all of whom offer unique insights into issues of sexuality and gender within a Dutch or international context.
Since SIT believes that you learn from experience, you will participate in various excursions and spend two weeks in Morocco to examine the issue of sexuality and gender in modern Islamic society.
