Overview

Spend your semester living and learning in the capital of Spain’s Catalonia region on the CIEE Spain: Semester in Barcelona program. Choose from a unique mix of courses at CIEE's Study Center and one of their renowned partner institutions: Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), or Universitat de Vic (UVic). Although it is helpful, you do not need to have prior experience with the Spanish language in order to apply.

Academics

The CIEE Semester in Barcelona program offers students the opportunity to combine CIEE classes with one of three universities in Barcelona: UPF, UAB, UVic. Each university offers a range of courses with an interdisciplinary approach, including the Arts, Economics, History, Philosophy, Psychology, Spanish Language Studies, and more.

If you select the UVic track, please contact the UGE Adviser listed below since courses may not transfer due to our Academic Credit Guidelines > Columbia-Approved.

Please note that you may not receive credit for language-instruction courses that are duplicates of coursework taken at Columbia or transferred from AP. To explore alternative programs, check out CIEE Spain: Liberal Arts in Madrid or CIEE Spain: Liberal Arts in Barcelona.

Program Features

You will have the option to live in either a homestay, in a student residencia (residence hall) with a mix of CIEE, local and international students, or in a shared apartment with CIEE students.

CIEE also complements the program with a variety of co-curricular activities and excursions beyond the city to make your understanding of this diverse region complete – and unforgettable.
