"We would study artists like Picasso and Le Corbusier in Art class or Verdi’s La Traviata in Music class, and then actually get a chance to go to Picasso’s museum in Paris and see La Traviata live at the Opéra National de Paris."

I knew this was an opportunity I could not afford to pass up, but I also knew I could not afford the total cost of this opportunity. I applied for the GLS with a positive outlook, and I am glad it worked out. Getting

to explore Paris the way that we did was something I will always cherish. Taking Art and Music Humanities together in a city that is bursting with the arts and culture was simply a unique experience. We would study artists like Picasso and Le Corbusier in Art class or Verdi’s La Traviata in Music class, and then actually get a chance to go to Picasso’s museum in Paris and see La Traviata live at the Opéra National de Paris.

Despite the intense heatwave that unfortunately happened to be the worst part of this trip, I would absolutely do it again. I am grateful for the opportunity to be selected for the scholarship that made this all possible. As a GS student, it is easy not to take chances like this because you never think you will be selected, but as a nontraditional student thriving at Columbia University,

I am thankful that GLS saw how hungry I was for a chance and gave me a way to experience something I do not think I would ever experience in any other context.

I have learned more about art and music in one summer than I have in my entire life. Most of all, the memories I made are the

ones that will stay with me moving forward. I encourage other GS students to take the chance and apply, because if I never did, I would not be writing this story. Thank you, GLS.
