"The evolving architecture between arrondissements and identifying urban infrastructure systems such as transit modalities and even sanitation were some of the highlights of my trip."
The intimate campus of Reid Hall, the history of the Foyer International des Etudiants and its proximity to the Jardin de Luxembourg, Notre-Dame, and the Seine as well as other monuments were instrumental in accessing the city. The excursions were an integral part of the curriculum and added deeper connections between course materials and Parisian lifestyle today. Some of the day trips I really enjoyed include Amiens, Le Corbusier's La Villa Savoye, and Monet’s garden in Giverny because they provided another look at French culture beyond the city.
One of my favorite aspects of the program as an Urban Studies major was simply walking through Paris! The evolving architecture between arrondissements and identifying urban infrastructure systems such as transit modalities and even sanitation were some of the highlights of my trip. Our cohort also endured the record breaking heatwave which prompted a lot of discourse about green energy. It was a topic of discussion for the 2 weeks and became a bonding experience as we shared cooling tips and air conditioned study spaces. The Summer Core in Paris was a transformative and rigorous academic program that I will never forget. I look forward to making deeper connections between New York City and Paris in my future academic and professional endeavors
